Information on Kids Toy Safety Standards

The safety of our children is always of great concern to parents. Because of our faith in our government here in the United States, we assume that the toys we buy are children are safe and will cause no harm. The recent rash of toy recalls, however, has shaken our collective faith in kids toys safety standards.
Safety guidelines for kids toys are quite stringent in this country. Any toy that has a remote chance of harming a child is required to bear a label on its packaging indicating the exact nature of the risk involved with the toy. Manufacturers even go so far as to have a choking warning on any toys for children that contain small parts. This is an obvious hazard that most parents do not need to be reminded of, but the label is still there just in case of a momentary lapse. The problem is not with the safety standards themselves, but with enforcement. Rigorous enforcement of safety rules is needed to keep our children safe.
